THE BLUEST EYE
The story happened in the early 1940’s in Lorain, Ohio. At a time when there was racism and discrimination between the black and the white. I think there are three main characters in the story. They are Pecola, Frieda and Claudia. The narrator is Claudia.
This story is about the life of Pecola Breedlove. This story about a tragic life of Pecola who was rejected from society by both her friends and her family. She hated her look and the color of her skin and eyes. She despised her extreme poverty and felt not as good as the whites. She was persecuted by her father who rapes and makes her impregnated. Because of all of these tragic experiences, she wants to obtain blue eyes, which symbolizes that she wants to be white. She thinks blue-eyed children can devastate all others. She always prays for eyes to turn blue, when her eyes turned blue, she will be beautiful, so the people will look at her, so that her world will be different. In addition, if she got blue eyes, she will be acceptable to her family, schoolmates, and neighbors and all of the people would be convinced that she is not ugly. This desire nudges Pecola into a gradual state of insanity. I think the title of this book introduces the desire of the character in this story. The title also describes what the story is about.
I think the plot of this story is very sad because Pecola has a tragic life, she is raped by her father and separated from her friends and family. I don’t like this story because it is too sad and I think it is poorly organized and almost can not understand. In addition, I don’t like this story because it is too boring and long.
